常绿直立或蔓性灌木，长可达6m。小枝圆柱形，红棕色，密被鳞毛。叶革质；叶形变化较大，自长椭圆形、卵状椭圆形至长椭圆状披钟形，长5-12cm，宽2-5cm，先端钝或短尖或渐尖，基部楔形至圆形，上面光滑，下面有银灰色鳞片；叶柄长8-16mm，红棕色。花2-10朵，簇生叶腋，银白色；花梗长2-3mm；花全长（连子房及裂片）8-12mm，花被筒管状，上部4裂，内被银白色与棕色鳞毛；雄蕊4；雌蕊1，花柱无毛。果实狭长椭圆形，长约18mm，成熟时红色，有显著的棱，果柄长12mm。
Evergreen upright or creeping shrub, up to 6m long. Twigs are cylindrical, reddish-brown, densely covered with scaly hairs. Leaves are leathery, variable in shape—ranging from elongated elliptic, ovate-elliptic, to elongated elliptic-obovate, 5–12 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, with blunt, short-acuminate, or gradually pointed apex, wedge-shaped to rounded base, smooth upper surface, silvery-gray scales beneath; petioles 8–16 mm long, reddish-brown. Flowers 2–10, clustered in leaf axils, silvery-white; pedicels 2–3 mm long; total flower length (including ovary and lobes) 8–12 mm, perianth tubular, upper part 4-lobed, internally covered with silvery-white and brown scaly hairs; 4 stamens; 1 pistil, style glabrous. Fruit narrowly oblong-elliptical, about 18 mm long, red when mature, prominently ribbed, fruit stalk 12 mm long.
