内服：煎汤，6-15g。外用：适量，研末敷。

本品不可多服，否则可出现黄疸。

Leaves are opposite, pinnately compound, with 5–7 leaflets, the terminal one being larger. Leaflets are lanceolate or narrowly elliptic, gradually tapering at the apex, cuneate at the base, with irregular sharp teeth along the margins. They are thin and brittle, often fragmented. Slight odor, slightly bitter and pungent taste.

甘青铁线莲，落叶藤本。主根粗壮，木质。茎具棱，幼时被长柔毛，后脱落。叶对生，一回羽状复叶；叶柄长2-7.5cm；小叶5-7，叶片浅裂、深裂或全裂，中央裂片较大，侧裂片小，卵状长圆形、狭长圆形或披针形，长3-4cm，宽0.5-1.5cm，先端钝，有短尖头，基部楔形，边缘有不整齐缺刻状锯齿，上面有毛或无毛，下面有疏长毛。花单生，有时为单聚伞花序，有3朵花，腋生；花序梗粗壮，长4.5-20cm，有毛；花两性；萼片4，狭卵形、椭圆状长圆形，长1.5-3.5cm，黄色外面带紫色，斜上展，先端渐尖或急尖，外面边缘被短绒毛，中间被柔毛，内面无毛或近无毛；花瓣无；雄蕊多数，花丝下面稍扁平，被开展的柔毛，花药无毛；心皮多数，密生柔毛。瘦果倒卵形，长约4mm，有长柔毛，宿存花术羽毛状，长达4cm。花期6-9月，果期7-10月。
Clematis tangutica is a deciduous woody vine. The main root is stout and woody. The stem is angular, pubescent with long soft hairs when young, which later fall off. Leaves are opposite, once-pinnately compound; petiole 2–7.5 cm long; leaflets 5–7, shallowly, deeply lobed, or entire, central lobe larger, lateral lobes smaller, ovate-oblong, narrowly elliptic, or lanceolate, 3–4 cm long, 0.5–1.5 cm wide, apex obtuse with a short tip, base cuneate, margins irregularly toothed, sparsely hairy or glabrous above, sparsely long-hairy below. Flowers solitary or in simple cymes of 3, axillary; peduncle stout, 4.5–20 cm long, hairy; flowers bisexual; 4 sepals, narrowly ovate or elliptic-oblong, 1.5–3.5 cm long, yellow with purple outside, spreading obliquely, apex gradually or abruptly pointed, margin externally covered with short pubescence, middle part with soft hairs, inner surface glabrous or nearly so; petals absent; numerous stamens, filaments slightly flattened below, with spreading soft hairs, anthers glabrous; numerous carpels, densely soft-hairy. Achenes obovoid, about 4 mm long, with long soft hairs; persistent styles feather-like, up to 4 cm long. Flowering from June to September, fruiting from July to October.
