缠绕木质藤本，高1-7m。小枝淡褐色，节处稍压扁，当年生小枝紫色或淡褐色。叶对生，单叶；叶柄长0.4-1.2cm，中部明显具关节。叶片革质，卵形或狭椭圆形，长4-10cm，宽1.5-6.5cm，先端锐尖、渐尖或骤突尖，基部楔形或圆形，除下面脉腋间具簇毛外，两面均光滑。总状或圆锥状聚伞花序，开展，顶生或腋生；花序梗长0.5-5cm；苞片对生，花序上部的呈锥形或披针形，花序基部的呈披针形，花梗长0-2.2cm；花芳香；花萼杯状，裂片4枚，三角形，稀宽线形；花冠白色，高脚碟状，花冠管长1-2cm，径1-2mm，裂片6-8枚，窄披针形；花柱异长。果近球形，径0.5-1.5cm，呈黑色。花期5-10月，果期8月至翌年4月。
Entwining woody vines, 1-7m tall. The small branches are light brown, slightly flattened at the nodes, and the current year's small branches are purple or light brown. The inflorescence is cymose or corymbose, open, terminal or axillary; peduncle is 0.5-5cm long; bracts are opposite, lanceolate or conical in the upper part of the inflorescence, and lanceolate in the lower part, with a flower stalk 0-2.2cm long; flowers are fragrant; calyx is cup-shaped, with 4 lobes, triangular, rarely broadly linear; corolla is white, hypocrateriform, corolla tube is 1-2cm long, 1-2mm in diameter, with 6-8 lobes, narrowly lanceolate; styles are unequal in length. The fruit is nearly spherical, 0.5-1.5cm in diameter, and black. Flowering occurs from May to October, and fruiting from August to April of the following year.
