形态特征小乔木，高6-8(-15)m，小枝粗壮，皮粗糙，幼时被锈色鳞片。叶互生；叶柄长约1cm，具狭翅和沟；叶片革质，倒卵形或广倒披针形，长11-17cm，宽4-6cm，有时长达23cm，宽8.5cm，先端钝急尖或广急尖，基部楔形，下延，全缘，常反折，对面平整，背面密被鳞片；侧脉多数，连成近边缘的边缘脉，无腺点。由多回亚伞形花序组成的圆锥花序，顶生或近顶生，长10-14cm，被鳞片；花梗长3-8mm，被鳞片；花萼基部连合，萼片狭三角状卵形或披针形，先端急尖，长1-1.5mm，具缘毛，无毛；花瓣粉红色至紫红色，卵形，先端钝，长约3mm；雄蕊与花瓣几等长，花药卵形，先端细尖；雌蕊与花瓣等长或略长。果球形，直径约6mm，紫红色至紫黑色，无腺点。花期6-7(-8)月，有时达翌年2月。
Small tree, 6-8(-15)m tall, with stout twigs and rough bark, covered with rusty scales when young. Leaves are alternate; petiole about 1cm long, with narrow wings and grooves; leaf blade leathery, inverted ovate or broadly inverted lanceolate, 11-17cm long, 4-6cm wide, sometimes reaching 23cm long and 8.5cm wide, obtuse or broadly acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, decurrent, entire margin, often reflexed, smooth on both sides, and covered with scales on the back; lateral veins numerous, connected to form marginal veins near the edge, without glandular dots. Conical panicles composed of multiple cymes, terminal or nearly terminal, 10-14cm long, covered with scales; pedicel 3-8mm long, covered with scales; calyx united at the base, narrowly triangular-ovate or lanceolate, acute at the apex, 1-1.5mm long, with marginal hairs, without hairs; petals pink to purple-red, ovate, obtuse at the apex, about 3mm long; stamens nearly as long as the petals, anthers ovate, tapering at the apex; pistils as long as or slightly longer than the petals. Fruit is globose, about 6mm in diameter, purple-red to purple-black, without glandular dots. Flowering period is from June to July (-August), sometimes extending to the following February.
