Gong-lao-zi, name of Chinese Medicinal Material. the fruit of Mahonia bealei (Fort.) Carr. and M. fortunei (Lindl.) Fedde, both belonging to the Berberidaceae family, is known for its effects of nourishing the lungs and kidneys, and clearing deficiency heat. It is used to treat pulmonary tuberculosis, bone-steaming and tidal fever, hemoptysis, soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees, dizziness and tinnitus, menorrhagia, leukorrhea, and cloudy urine.
