吊灯扶桑,又名假西藏红花、灯笼花。常绿直立灌木,高达3m。小枝细瘦,常下垂,平滑无毛。叶互生;叶柄长1-2cm,上面被星状柔毛;托叶钻形,长约2mm,常早落;叶片椭圆形或长圆形,长4-7cm,宽1.5-4cm,先端短尖或短渐尖,基部钝或宽楔形,边缘具齿缺,两面均无毛。花单生于枝端叶腋间,花梗细瘦,下垂,长8-14cm,平滑无毛或具纤毛,中部具节;小苞片5,极小,披针形,长1-2mm,被纤毛;花萼管状,长约1.5cm,疏被细毛,具5浅齿裂,常一边开裂;花瓣5,红色,长约5cm,深细裂作流苏状,向上反曲;雄蕊柱长而突出,下垂,长9-10cm,无毛;花柱枝5,无毛。蒴果长圆柱形,长约4cm,直径约1cm。花期全年。分布区域
