攀援灌木,高约1.5米;枝圆柱形,灰棕褐色至紫褐色,幼时有柔毛,老时脱落,疏生皮刺。叶常为掌状5小叶,椭圆状披针形或菱状披针形,长3-7厘米,宽1-2.4厘米,顶端渐尖至尾尖,基部楔形,两面仅沿叶脉具柔毛,边缘有粗锐锯齿和重锯齿;叶柄长2-4厘米,具柔毛,小叶无柄或几无柄;托叶线状披针形,着生于叶柄基部,仅基部与叶柄连合或近分离,微有柔毛,常不分裂;花常单生于侧生小枝顶端;花梗长2-3.5厘米,无毛;苞片与托叶相似;花直径1.5-2厘米;花萼外面无毛,仅于内萼片边缘具绒毛,无刺或有稀疏针刺;萼片卵状披针形或三角状披针形,顶端尾尖,全缘,稀内萼片2-3浅条裂,在果期直立;花瓣卵形或椭圆形,白色,微有柔毛,几无爪,比萼片短得多;雄蕊单列,花丝宽扁;雌蕊10-15,花柱基部和子房均有浅黄色长柔毛。果实半球形,包藏在萼内,直径1-1.5厘米,红色,与宿存花柱基部均具长柔毛;核长达4毫米,有皱纹。花期4-5月,果期5-6月。
Climbing shrub, about 1.5 meters high; branches are cylindrical, gray-brown to purplish-brown, with soft hairs when young, which fall off when old, and sparsely covered with thorns. The leaves are usually palmately compound with 5 leaflets, elliptic-lanceolate or rhombic-lanceolate, 3-7 cm long, 1-2.4 cm wide, gradually tapering to a pointed or tail-like tip at the apex, and wedge-shaped at the base. Both surfaces have soft hairs only along the veins, with coarse serrations and heavy serrations along the edges; petioles are 2-4 cm long, with soft hairs, and the leaflets are sessile or nearly sessile; stipules are linear-lanceolate, attached to the base of the petiole, only connected to or nearly separated from the base of the petiole, slightly hairy, and often undivided; flowers are usually solitary at the tips of lateral branches; pedicels are 2-3.5 cm long, hairless; bracts are similar to stipules; flowers are 1.5-2 cm in diameter; the outside of the calyx is hairless, with only the inner sepals having marginal hairs, without thorns or with sparse needle-like thorns; sepals are ovate-lanceolate or triangular-lanceolate, with a pointed tip, entire margin, and rarely 2-3 shallow lobes on the inner sepals, which are erect during fruiting; petals are ovate or elliptic, white, slightly hairy, and much shorter than the sepals; stamens are solitary, with broad filaments; pistils are 10-15, with shallow yellowish long hairs at the base of the style and ovary. The fruit is hemispherical, enclosed in the calyx, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, red, and covered with long soft hairs at the base of the persistent style; the stone is up to 4 mm long and wrinkled. Flowering period is from April to May, and fruiting period is from May to June.
