小灌木，高40-100cm。多分枝，老枝有裂纹，小枝乳白色。单叶互生；老枝上的叶簇生于短枝顶部；叶片半圆柱形，长1-3cm，宽1-2mm，无毛，先端钝或尖，基部扩展而隆起，乳白色，叶片自缢缩处脱落，枝条上有叶基残痕。花序穗状；苞片比小苞片长；花被片长圆形，先端有小凸尖，果时自背面中下部生翅；翅3个为半圆形，有多数细脉，2个较狭窄；花被片在翅以上部分，包覆果实，上部稍反折，成莲座状；花药附属物先端急尖；柱头钻状，长为花柱的2-4倍。种子黄色，直径2-2.5mm。花期7-8月，果期8-10月。
Small shrub, 40-100cm tall. It branches extensively, with cracked old branches and milky white young branches. The leaves are alternate; clusters of leaves on old branches are located at the top of short branches; the leaf blade is semi-cylindrical, 1-3cm long, 1-2mm wide, hairless, blunt or pointed at the apex, expanded and raised at the base, milky white. The leaves fall off from the constriction, leaving leaf scars on the branches. The inflorescence is spike-like; bracts are longer than the small bracts; the floral tube is oblong, with a small pointed tip at the apex, and wings develop from the lower middle part of the back when the fruit matures; there are three semi-circular wings with numerous fine veins, two of which are narrower. The floral tube covers the fruit, with the upper part slightly reflexed, forming a lotus seat-like structure; the appendage at the tip of the anther is sharply pointed; the stigma is drill-shaped, 2-4 times the length of the style. The seeds are yellow, with a diameter of 2-2.5mm. It flowers from July to August and fruits from August to October.
