乌墨,又名乌楣《广州植物志》,海南蒲桃《海南植物志》,堇宝莲《台湾药用植物志》。乔木,高15m。嫩枝圆形,干后灰白色。叶对生;叶柄长1-2cm;叶片革质,阔椭圆形至狭椭圆形,长6-12cm,宽3.5-7cm,先端圆或钝,有一个短的尖头,基部阔楔形,全缘,上面干后褐绿色或黑褐色,略发亮,下面稍浅色,两面多细小腺点;羽状脉较密。圆锥花序腋生或生于花枝上,长达11cm,偶有顶生;有短花梗,花白色,3-5朵簇生;萼管倒圆锥形,长4mm,萼齿很不明显;花瓣4,卵形略圆,长约2.5mm;雄蕊多数,长3-4mm,花药丁字着生,纵裂;子房下位,花柱与雄蕊等长。浆果卵圆形或壶形,长1-2cm,上部有长1-1.5mm的宿存萼筒,种子1颗。花期2-3月。分布区域

The inflorescences are axillary or borne on flowering branches, up to 11cm long, occasionally terminal; with short flower stalks, white flowers, clustered in 3-5; the calyx tube is inverted-conical, 4mm long, with inconspicuous calyx teeth; 4 petals, slightly oval, about 2.5mm long; numerous stamens, 3-4mm long, with longitudinally split anthers; ovaries are inferior, with styles equal in length to stamens.
