一年生草本。直立或倾卧发出弯曲上升的枝。根须状。茎枝略呈四角形，角上有棱，面上有沟，中部的节间较长，可达6cm，无毛。叶对生；基部者有短柄，上部叶无柄微抱茎；叶片菱状卵形至菱状披针形，长0.5-2cm，宽0.3-0.8cm，先端微尖，基部宽楔形，边缘具波状浅缺，小齿或全缘，质颇厚，两面无毛。花序近总状，顶生或腋生，花不超过10朵；苞片披针形，花梗细，长0.5-2.5cm；花萼狭钟状，裂片三角状卵形；花冠紫色或蓝紫色，长1.3cm以上，喉部渐扩大，上唇2裂，下唇较上唇大，3裂；雄蕊4，全育；柱头宽片状。蒴果椭圆形，比宿萼短。种子多数。花期5-7月，果期8-10月。
It is an annual herb. The stem is erect or prostrate, with curved ascending branches. It has a root-like appearance. The stem is slightly quadrangular, with edges and grooves, and the internodes in the middle are relatively long, up to 6cm, and hairless. The leaves are opposite; the lower ones have short petioles, and the upper leaves are sessile or slightly clasping the stem. The leaf blade is rhombic-ovate to rhombic-lanceolate, 0.5-2cm long, 0.3-0.8cm wide, slightly pointed at the apex, broadly cuneate at the base, with wavy shallow incisions on the margin, with small teeth or entire margin, thick in texture, and hairless on both sides. The inflorescence is nearly cymose, terminal or axillary, with no more than 10 flowers; the bracts are lanceolate, and the pedicels are slender, 0.5-2.5cm long; the calyx is narrowly campanulate, with triangular-ovate lobes; the corolla is purple or blue-purple, over 1.3cm long, gradually widening at the throat, with a 2-lobed upper lip and a 3-lobed lower lip; the stamens are 4, all fertile; the stigma is broadly lobe-shaped. The capsule is ellipsoidal, shorter than the persistent calyx. Numerous seeds are produced. It flowers from May to July and fruits from August to October.
