Efficacy and Functions

Stop bleeding, heal wounds.

Indications

Hemoptysis, epistaxis, hematemesis, hematochezia, hematuria, surgical bleeding, burns, pemphigus.

Dosage and Administration

Internal use: Decoction, 15-30g. External use: Charred and finely powdered for application.

Chemical Components

It contains β-(3-(β-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-4-hydroxyphenyl)-L-alanine. It also contains glyceric acid.

Pharmacological Effects

Glyceric acid contained in bean pods has a diuretic effect when injected subcutaneously in rabbits.

Clinical Application

Hemostatic effects: It is effective for hemoptysis, epistaxis, hematuria, gastrointestinal bleeding, surgical field bleeding, etc.

① Decoction: Half a kilogram of fresh bean pods, decocted in water, taken twice daily. Used for moderate to mild hemoptysis.

② Powder: Filter and concentrate the decoction of bean pods, then heat and dry to make powder. Taken three times a day, 0.5 grams each time. It has a temporary hemostatic effect on patients with epistaxis and hematuria.

③ Injection: A 20% injection is made from the powder of bean pods, injected into the muscle twice daily, 5 milliliters each time. Used for hemoptysis in pulmonary tuberculosis. It can also be used by soaking gauze in the medicine solution for direct hemostasis in the surgical field. The mechanism of hemostasis of bean pods requires further research.
