Efficacy and Functions
Nourishing Yin, moisturizing dryness, relieving cough, and regulating menstruation.
Indications
Treatment for tuberculosis cough and irregular menstruation.
Clinical Application
① Treatment for tuberculosis cough: 12 grams each of pagoda tree flower root, stinking magnolia, banana root, poria, wild ginseng, black astragalus, and Chinese lobelia. Cook with meat, chicken, or pig heart and lung for consumption.
② Treatment for irregular menstruation: 12 grams each of pagoda tree flower and Chinese pulsatilla root. Steam with wine for consumption.
Botanical Information
Morphological characteristics: Subshrub, 30–80 cm tall. The stem is erect, square, with edges and deep grooves between them, covered with short soft hairs. Leaves are opposite, long-ovate, 5.5–11.5 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, gradually pointed at the apex, rounded at the base, with shallow rounded serrations on the margin, short hairs on both surfaces, denser on the veins; petiole 3–8 cm long. Verticillate inflorescence with several flowers, labiate: calyx campanulate, 5-toothed, corolla yellow, externally covered with fine short soft hairs. Four small nuts.
Distribution Area
Distributed in Southwest China, Central South China, Taiwan, and other regions.
