Pea. Th, name of Chinese Medicinal Material. seed of the plant Pisum sativum in the legume family. The plant peas are cultivated all over the country. It has the effects of regulating the middle and lower energizer, promoting lactation and diuresis, and detoxification. It is mainly used to treat diabetes, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal distension, cholera with convulsions, insufficient lactation, beriberi and edema, and carbuncle.

Clinical Application 临床应用

1、功效:健脾开胃、祛淤解毒,对脂肪肝、高血脂症、胃下垂、更年期综合征均有疗效。
药膳食疗:糖醋酥豌豆

  1. Benefits: Invigorates the spleen, stimulates appetite, promotes blood circulation, and detoxifies; effective for fatty liver, hyperlipidemia, gastric ptosis, and menopausal syndrome.
  2. Ingredients: 500g peas, 5g each of red chili, chopped green onions, minced garlic, vinegar, sesame oil, vegetable oil, salt, and sugar.
  3. Instructions: Soak peas in water for 2 hours, then wash. Place in a sieve, make a small cut on each pea with a knife, transfer to a bowl using chopsticks. Add green onions and garlic, pour in sesame oil and hot water, mix well. Finely chop red chili. Heat oil in a pan to 60% temperature, fry peas until crispy, remove and drain oil, place on a large plate. Mix green onions, garlic, chili, salt, sugar, and vinegar into a sauce, pour over peas and mix thoroughly.
  4. Usage: Consume with meals as desired.

Harvesting and processing: collect pods when fruits are ripe in summer and autumn, sun-dry them, and thresh out the seeds.

Medicinal Material Identification 药材鉴别

Characteristics: The seeds are spherical, about 5mm in diameter. The surface ranges from green to yellow-green or pale yellow-white, wrinkled, with a visible punctate hilum. The seed coat is thin but tough; removing it reveals two thick, yellow-white cotyledons. Slight odor, mild taste.
药材性状:种子圆球形,直径约5mm。表面青绿色至黄绿色、淡黄白色,有皱纹,可见点状种脐。种皮薄而韧,除去种皮有2枚黄白色肥厚的子叶。气微,味淡。

Morphological Characteristics 形态特征

An annual climbing herb, 0.5–2m tall. Entire plant green, smooth, glabrous, covered with a waxy bloom. Leaves have 4–6 leaflets; stipules larger than leaflets, foliaceous, heart-shaped, finely toothed at base. Leaflets ovate, 2–5cm long, 1–2.5cm wide. Flowers solitary in axils or several arranged in racemes. Calyx campanulate, deeply 5-lobed, lobes lanceolate. Corolla color varies by cultivar, mostly white or purple. Stamens diadelphous (9+1). Ovary glabrous, style flattened, inner surface bearded. Pods swollen, oblong-elliptic, 2.5–10cm long, 0.7–1.4cm wide, apex acutely oblique, dorsal suture nearly straight, inner lining hard and papery. Seeds 2–10 per pod, round, green, wrinkled or smooth, turning yellow when dry. Flowering June–July, fruiting July–September.
